Appreciating the cultural differences and similarities between Japanese and Western culture turned out to be pretty pivotal for me to overcome the unavoidable culture shock of Japan, and arrive to the place I’m at today where I feel a deep and long-lasting fondness for this bureaucracy-loving, Yakuza-fearing, taking-up-the-whole-road-when-turning society.

One of the things that reminded me that ‘we’re all kinda the same, really’ was checking out a bilingual improv comedy show in Tokyo. You can read about how doing so will not only fulfil your anthropologically-curious mind, but possibly kick your motivation to study Japanese up another notch. Head to Coto Academy’s blog to take a gander.
